EG - 242 Engine section – Engine (Cummins ISF3.8)

Starter
Check and repair

1. Remove the starter

a. Switch off the ignition switch
b. Disconnect the cable of battery negative pole
c. Disconnect the starter connector.

d. Disconnect the lead wire nut of starter power supply
terminal.

e. Remove the starter fixing bolts.

f. Remove the starter.

2. Check the starter

• When it is energized, measure the clearance (pinion
clearance) between the pinion and the backstop device with
a vernier caliper.
