04-446 DIAGNOSTICS - ENGINE CONTROL SYSTEM

SLOW MOTOR TURNING OF ENGINE (ELECTRIC STARTER

           MOTOR)

Fault phenomenon Diagnosis logic Possible reasons

                                            • Engine oil • Poor engine oil quality
      04 • Battery • Battery fault
                                            • Starter or starter circuit • Starter or starter circuit fault

Slow motor turning of engine • Crankshaft • Crankshaft fault
(electric starter motor) • Camshaft • Camshaft fault
                                            • Timing mechanism • Overhead mechanism fault
                                            • Injection timing • Injection timing fault
                                            • ECM • ECM fault

           Diagnosis Procedure

1 . Check the engine data
           (a) Ignition switch: OFF.
           (b) Connect the diagnosis tool with the fault diagnosis connector (16 pins) on the lower
                  left of the dashboard.
           (c) Ignition switch: ON, and start the diagnostic tool.
           (d) Read the motor data shown on the diagnostic tool.

Check whether the data flow is normal or not.
           YES>To step 2.

           No >Maintenance related faults.

           2 . ECM fault
           (a) Check whether the battery is in normal status.

           Is the inspection result normal?
           YES>To step 3.
           No >Maintenance related faults.

           3 . Check engine oil
           (a) Check the quality of engine oil is accord with standard.
           Is the inspection result normal?

           YES>To step 4.
           NO>Replace engine oil.

4 . Check starter and starter circuit
           (a) Check whether the starer is damaged.
           (b) Check whether the starter circuit is normal.
           Is the inspection result normal?

           YES>To step 5.
           No >Maintenance related faults.

                                                                                                         Page 592
