• Good afternoon and Happy Saturday! I’m Shani Hosten and I’m truly blessed to
serve as Vice President of Multicultural Leadership at AARP leading our African
American/Black Strategy work.
• On behalf of AARP we extend our heartfelt congratulations to your National
President and CEO, Beverly E. Smith and the 2019 National Officers, Convention
and Seminar Leadership Team for hosting this amazing conference here in the Big
Easy!
• We are proud of the continued collaborations between AARP and Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Incorporated that extends back many years as both organizations
have served to impact communities across the country.
• While many of you are probably familiar with AARP and likely carry our red
membership card, you may not know that we are the nation’s largest nonprofit,
nonpartisan organization and we’ve recently celebrated our birthday have been
dedicated to advocating for and empowering adults 50 and older for the past 60
years. AARP’s goal is to help adults choose how we live as we age. We are a global
thought leader on aging and have a major national presence and offices in every
state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
• AARP is committed to multicultural outreach and value partners like Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Incorporated to continue to make impactful strides in communities
across the country. We recognize that we can’t do it alone and I encourage you all
to look for potential connections to work on joint programs in your respective
states to help those 50 plus live longer healthier more productive lives as we age.
