Double Half Hitch
The Double Half Hitch is two Half Hitches tied one after the other, and is a popular knot for securing
tent guylines. Despite the name, it's not twice as good as the single Half Hitch. In fact, there is no
good use for this knot; if you have enough rope to tie it, you also have enough rope (and wherewithal)
to tie the better Double Fisherman's. The
Double Half Hitch is included here only so that you know what it is and to avoid it.
Common Use
Securing tent line
Secondary Use
None
Double Half Hitch.

Ring Bend
The Ring Bend has a mind of its own. And a devious one at that. Turn your back on it and it will
loosen itself and come undone. Despite its poor character, the Ring Bend is a favorite for tying
webbing, as it has the redeeming qualities of being simple, clean, and easy to visually inspect. Use
this knot to fashion runners and tie-offs from webbing; be sure to leave a 3-inch tail on each side of
the knot.
