pportunity is all around us. But more importantly, God put opportunity within us, but mostly in
O front of us. Sometimes it takes “going through the trash” for beautiful creations to emerge. That’s
what happened to Clark Ulysse, a Minnesota artist/inventor who stumbled upon a new and innovative way
to use paper others would normally toss. But isn’t that like God? To take what is throw away, seemingly
useless, and make it brand new?
Sitting in his office, among files of paper, going through this and that with the shredder at his side. Ulysse
was at a tough place in his life. In financial difficulty, having to move out of his office, going through the
emotional turmoil of divorce, his burdens were heavy. As he sat and took his frustrations out, shredding
paper after paper, he thought to himself, “There must be more to life than this and there has to be more
to this shredded paper aside of waiting for the recycle truck to come by.” As God began to stir him up, he
had an encounter with the Lord – he got an idea. “Let me do something with all these paper shreds.” His
creative mind began to flow, and supernaturally God released an opportunity to him at that moment that
not even he himself realized how grand it was!
Much like a potter on a wheel, he began molding and shaping the multi-colored fragments and turning
them into something new. Starting with balls, Ulysse ended up with hundreds and hundreds of them!
Over the course of 4 years, those once simple paper balls became other works of art – from bowls, to wall
prints, and now clothing, home decor and accessories. God used an unfortunate time in Ulysse’s life to
lead him down the path to an entire line of art, that is as unique as prints come.
Chuarts was born (which stands for Clark Herold Ulysse Arts) and now, Ulysse has something tangible to
show for this creative process that God brought to him as an opportunity to make a living. Beautiful prints,
put through a proprietary process to embellish unlimited items – for one of a kind creations that once
done, that's it.
“This is more than paper. It’s more than fabric. It’s more than just art,” says Ulysse. As you look at the
pieces, you will see a whole host of color combinations, designs, and one of a kind art that cannot be
reproduced. “I even tried adding other things to the process to create unique color combinations and
patterns (it’s a secret!). It’s been a lot of fun, and has expanded my imagination.”
