URBAN PLAINS “LAZY RIVER”
The Urban Plains complex was
constructed in 2008 and created a
network surface water feature that could
be utilized for recreational activities.
Allowing recreational activities to occur
on the ponds (i.e. kayaking and paddle
boarding) required the system to include
water quality treatment. The water
quality treatment system consists of a
recirculation system, 2 pretreatment
forebays and a large regional filtration
basin to treat stormwater runoff prior to
entering into the main ponds which are
over 12 acres in size. After operating as
designed for over 5 years, surface water
started draining from the system and the
main ponds are unable to maintain the
designed normal water level. AE2S has
been hired by the City to re-design the
facility to create a “Lazy River” through
the two main ponds. AE2S is in the
process of providing the City a concept
plan to determine the most feasible
option. Ultimately the City will be
constructing the “lazy river” in 2016.
Key project elements include:
• Developing a concept plan to
reconstruct the main ponds into a
meandering stream with wetland
habitat and upland areas
• The site must be evaluated to
determine the hydrologic and DATE
hydraulic properties of the system to 2015 - Current CLIENT
