Therefore man must be resolute and guard himself closely from לֵגּרְַתִתּ םִא ףוֹסַּבְל לָבֲא ,ןֶהיֵלֲע לֹמֲעַל ךְירִָצ הָלִּחְתִבֶּשׁ ףַא
this sin because his speech can initiate great sufferings.
וּנְיַהְדּ .תוֹלֲעַמַּה לָכְבּ רָטֻּעְמוּ רָשָׁי םָדָא אֵצֵי ,םֶהָבּ וֹשְׁפַנ
[ 2 ] Rechilut: The esur of Rechilut is based on the Lav cited

[ 3 ] Lies: The esur of lying is learned from the pasuk (Shemot הֶזָכּ שׁיִא .תקֶלֲֹחַמוּ תוּנָציֵלְו ,רקֶֶשְׁו הָפֻּנֲחֵמ רֵהָזִּי ,ויָנָפּ
23:7) “Keep yourselves distant from lies,” especially in
monetary issues. One who falsely disputes a claim against him םִיַמָשׁ םֵשׁ שֵׁדּקְַתִיְו ,הָטַּמְל דָמְחֶנְו הָלְעַמְל בוּהָא הֶיְהִי
by a fellow Jew (and the claim is correct) violates the Lav of רֶשֲׁא לֵארְָשִׂי" :)'ג ט"מ הָיְעַשְׁי( רַמוֹל לַכוּנ ויָלָעְו .וֹדָי לַע
(perashat Kedoshim; Vayikrah 19:11) “You shall not lie to one
another.” And even more so, one who testifies falsely in Beit Din לַעַבִּמ וֹרָכְשׂ לֵבּקְַי תוֹלֲעַמַּהֵמ תַחַא לָכּ לַעְו ."רָאָפְּתֶא ךְָבּ
violates the Lav of (Shemot 23:13) “Do not testify falsely against .אָבַּבוּ הֶזָבּ וֹקְלֶח ירְֵשַׁאְו ,לוּמְגַּה
a fellow Jew.”

[ 4 ] Flattery: (One who whitewashes someone’s evil behavior
in his presence – in order to gain his favor) The esur of flattery
is derived from the pasuk (Bamidbar 35:33) “Do not flatter,”
which according to many Early Authorities is an absolute Lav
of the Torah. Please reference the Introduction to Sefer Chafetz
Chayim for more explanation .

[ 5 ] Mockery: The esur of mockery is derived from the pasuk
(Yeshayah 28:22) “And now, you shall not mock.” The essence
of this Lav evolves from the pasuk (Devarim 6:7) “And you shall
speak those words.” Regarding this pasuk, Chazal have taught
(Gemara Yomah 19a) that ‘you shall speak those words (of Torah)
and not words that are pointless, and mockery and frivolous
language are obviously within this realm of esur. Regarding
mockery \ scoffing, Chazal have formulated a rule (Gemara
Megillah 25b) that all of these forms of speech are forbidden
except for language that mocks \ that holds up to ridicule all
forms of idol worship. Furthermore, reading any books that
contain falsehoods will most certainly ruin and defile a person’s
speech as well as his soul. Those who read this type of literature
