the Torah (Shemot 23:1) “Do not accept a false report,” as the
Gemara Pesachim (118a) derives from this pasuk, he will also ,ה ָּדִמ ְּב ה ָּדִמ וֹמִּע ךְרַ ָּבְתִי 'ה גֵהַנְתִמ דוֹע ,.

will not “believe” any of the accusations against him. We find this
concept illustrated in Tanach (Amos 7:10-11) when Amatziah,
the Kohein of Beit El appeared before king Yerovam Ben Yoash
and told him that the prophet Amos prophesized against him ,רַמָאֶשׁ "סוֹמָע ךָיֶלָע רַשׁקָ" :)'י 'ז סוֹמָע( רַמָאְו ,ךְֶל ֶּמַה שָׁאוֹי

and that he (Yerovam) would die by the sword and Israel would
be forced into exile from its land, Yerovam answered (Gemara
Pesachim 87b) “that righteous person (i.e., Amos) never said םִאְו ,ךְ ָּכ קי ּדִַצ וֹתוֹא רַמָא אלֹ :םָעְברָָי וֹל ביִשֵׁה ."
any such thing, and if he did say it, it was only because that is .
what HaKadosh Baruch Hu told him to say. (In response to the
way Yerovam answered Amatziah) HaKadosh Baruch Hu said – ,ןֵה הרָָז הָדוֹבֲע ידְֵבוֹע רוֹדַּה :אוּה ךְוּר ָּב שׁוֹד ּקַָה רַמָאְו
This generation is one that worships idols and the leader of this
generation (i.e., king Yerovam) is an idol worshipper.
he did not believe the Lashon Hara told to him (I will reward him רֹסְמֶא ,ןוּנ ן ִּב ַעֻשׁוֹהְי שַׁב ָּכ אלֶֹּשׁ תוֹרָיֲעָה ןָתוֹא ןֵכָל ,ערָָה
and) the cities that were not conquered by Yehoshua ben Nun will
be placed under his rule, as the pasuk states (Melachim II 14:25)
“and he extended the borders of Israel from Le’Voh Chamat until ,םָדָא ל ָּכ ןיִבָי הֶּזִמוּ ."'
the sea of Arava.” From this, everyone can understand the need
to be careful throughout one’s life not to believe the Lashon Hara
that one hears, as the Midrash concludes; that this character trait
is applicable at all times, throughout all of Israel wherever they
may be. The reason for this is because HaKadosh Baruch Hu, ,אוּה ךְוּר ָּב שׁוֹד ּקַָהֶשׁ ,אוּה ןָיְנִעָה םַעַטְו .'
who is the source of all good and kindness, wants to benefit His
creations in every way. However, He first created the world in
a way that by virtue of performing a mitzvah one will acquire
an advocate, and in committing a sin one acquires a prosecutor.
Nevertheless, HaKadosh Baruch Hu greatly desires that they
should not prosecute that person, but if that person is prosecuted
(by the Satan) it is as if He is forced to accept the indictment.
Thus Yerovam (ben Yoash), because he did not want to accept .
Amatziah’s Lashon Hara against the prophet Amos, so too did
