Rabbah, perashat Shoftim 10) as does the Gemara Arachin (15b): ד"סב
“Mar Ukvah said – Hakadosh Baruch Hu says about one who
speaks Lashon Hara: That person and I cannot coexist in the same
world” (because that person cannot tolerate Gd’s Presence).
[ 14 ] Jerusalem was destroyed at the time of the second Beit
HaMikdash only because of the sin of Lashon Hara, which was Dedicated in honor of our dear parents
a consequence of the baseless hatred that permeated the Jewish Mr. & Mrs. Jack Levy
society of that time (Gemara Yomah 9b) (and persists even until
today, as demonstrated by our long, continuing bitter exile). Mrs. Mollie Schultz
[ 15 ] Whoever speaks Lashon Hara will be punished with
(Tzara’at) lesions and the degree of defilement of this Mehtzorah And in memory of
is greater than the degree of the defilement of someone who is
defiled by a seminal emission, or someone who came into contact Mr. Max Schultz A”H
with a corpse, since this Mehtzorah is banished from all three
Jewish encampments. Whoever enters his tent (the tent of the

Mehtzorah) becomes defiled, something that we do not find in By their children
any other kind of defilement. Sefer HaKaneh writes that this Yedidya and Frieda Levy
person will be compelled to endure the punishment of Tzara’at in
the Coming Future. This is also the implication of the Midrash Our children and grandchildren
quoting Rebbe Yannai, who expounded on the pasuk (Mishle
21:23) ‘One who guards his mouth and his tongue will protect his
soul from sorrows;’ “Don’t read the pasuk as ‘Tzarot’ \ ‘sorrows,’
but rather read it as ‘Tzara’at’ \ ‘lesions’.” (As Chazal will expound
on two similarly sounding words to teach a lesson).
[ 16 ] In speaking Lashon Hara, man invokes against himself the Dedicated in memory of

47. Quoting from the Mazal Elul edition of the English translation of Sefer
Shemirat HaLashon, Book 2, 16th perek (distributed by Feldheim by an anonymous donor
Publishers, 5766):
There are three general categories of Tumah, three states of defilement: (1)
defilement (impurity) that comes as a result of coming into contact with a
corpse, (2) defilement that evolves from a seminal discharge or emission
and (3) the defilement of a Mehtzorah. The person who becomes impure as
a result of contact with a corpse is only sent outside of the Encampment of
the Shehchinah. One who is impure because of an emission or a seminal
discharge is additionally sent outside the Encampment of the Levi’im. But
