בֵלְו ,תוֹצֲעוֹי תוֹיָל ְּכֶשׁ י ִּפ לַע ףַא .ןוֹשׁ ָּלַה אְטֵח אוּה ן ֵּכ
A Tefilah by the Chafetz Chayim .):ג"ל ת ָּבַשׁ( רֵמוֹגּ ה ֶּפ - ךְ ֵּתַחְמ ןוֹשָׁלְו ,ןיִבֵמ
.וֹרוּסִּא לדֶֹּג ןֵנוֹבְּתִהְל לַכוּי ,ןוֹבָנ בֵל וֹל שֵּׁיֶשׁ יִמ הֵּנִהְו .טי
It is appropriate to make this request (of HaKadosh Baruch Hu)
following one’s morning prayers. In so doing it will serve as a ,ןיִשֲׂעַו ןיִואָל ה ָּמ ַּכ רוּבּ ּדִַה ןַיְנִע לַע הרָוֹתּ ַּב בוּת ָּכֶשׁ דַבְל ִּמֶשׁ
reminder not to become entrapped by the sin of Lashon Hara or תַשׁרָָפ ְּב ן ֵּכ םַּג הֶז לָלְכִנ ,םיִּיַח ץֵפָח רֶפֵס תַחיִתְפ ִּב רָאֹבְמ ַּכ
Rechilut or the use of other forbidden words. 9
רוּרָא" :)ד"כ ז"כ םירִָב ּדְ( םָשׁ רַמֱאֶּנֶשׁ .ןירִוּרֲא ב"י ְּב אוֹבָת
Master of the Universe, may it be Your Will, G-d of mercy and
compassion, to give me the merit today and each day to enable me שׁוּרֵפ ְּכ ערָָה ןוֹשָׁל לַע יֵאקָ אוּהֶשׁ ,"רֶת ָּס ַּב וּהֵערֵ ה ֶּכַמ
to guard my mouth and tongue in order not to become entrapped וֹבּ - רוּרָא :).ו"ל( תוֹעוּבְשׁ ִּב ארָָמְּגַה רַמֲאַמ ַעוּדָיְו .י"ִשּׁרַ
by the sin of speaking forbidden words.
יִמ ךְרֵָבְל םי ּדִקְִה ןירִוּרֲאָה ל ָּכ םדֶקֹ םַגְו .יוּדִּנ וֹבּ ,הָלָלקְ
This includes Lashon Hara, as the pasuk admonishes (Shemot
23:1) “Do not accept a false report,” and which is (also) read as הָיָהְו .):ז"ל ף ּדַ הָטוֹס( ל"ַזֲח וּרְמָאֶשׁ וֹמ ְּכ ,הֶז לַע רֵבוֹע וֹניֵאֶשׁ
“Do not issue a false report.” In so doing the Torah is warning הָכרְָב ִּב ץ ֹּפְחַלְו ,הרָוֹתּ לֶשׁ רוּרָאָה ןִמ ארָיִל דֹאְמ ןוֹכָּנַה ןִמ
us that it is forbidden to speak Lashon Hara and to accept Lashon
Hara as truth. :)ב"כ 'י יֵלְשִׁמ( בוּת ָּכֶשׁ וֹמ ְּכ ,בוֹט לָכְלוּ תוּריִשֲׁעַל הָליִעוֹמֶּשׁ

It also includes the sin of Rechilut \ gossip, as the pasuk instructs לֶשׁ ויָניֵע רֵּוַעְמ ערָָה רֶצֵּיַה ךְַא ."ריִשֲׁע ַּת איִה 'ה ת ַּכרְ ִּב"
us (Vayikrah 19:16) “Do not peddle gossip among your people,” .תֶמֱאָה תוֹארְֵמ םָדָא
and may I be careful not to speak even about a single individual.

Even more so may I also be careful not to speak derogatorily הָנוּמֱא לֵא" :)'ד ב"ל םירִָב ּדְ( קוּס ָּפַה לַע ירְֵפִס ְּב אָתיִא .כ
about the Jewish people, a sin which is exceedingly profound, ויָשֲׂעַמ ל ָּכ םיִא ָּב ,םָלוֹעָה ןִמ רָטְפִנ םָדָאָהֶשׁ ְּכ ,"לֶוָע ןיֵאְו
and most certainly may I be careful not to complain about any of
the attributes of HaKadosh Baruch Hu, which is a sin that is more .ןֵה :רֵמוֹא אוּהְו ,יִנוֹל ְּפ םוֹי ָתיִשָׂע ךְ ָּכ :וֹל םירְִמוֹאְו ויָנָפְל
severe than all of these others, as the Torah states in perashat םָדָא ל ָּכ דַי ְּב)וּ(" :)'ז ז"ל בוֹיִּא( רַמֱאֶּנֶשׁ ,םֹתֲח :וֹל םירְִמוֹאְו
Chukat (Bamidbar 21:4) “And the spirit of the people became
impatient along the way and the nation spoke against Elokim :רֵמוֹאְו ,ןי ּדִַה תֶא קי ּדְִצַמ אוּהֶשׁ ,אוּה רָשָׁיְו קי ּדִַצ ."םוֹתְּחַי
and Moshe.” Because of that complaining He sent the snakes ק ּדְַצ ִּת ןַעַמְל" :)'ו א"נ םי ִּלִה ְּת( רֵמוֹא אוּה ןֵכְו ,יִנ ַּתְנ ּדַ הֶפָי
against them, etc. (21:7) and they said “we have sinned because
we spoke against Hashem and you (Moshe).” ."ךֶָטְפָשְׁב ה ֶּכְז ִּת ךָרְֶבָד ְּב
May you also give me the merit to avoid speaking words that are תֶא םירִָמֲאַמ םיִע ָּברְַאָה וּלֵּא ְּב ל ֹּכַה יֵנְפִל וּניֵארְֶה הֵנִּה
lies, as the pasuk states (Shemot 23:7) “Stay far away from a lie,”
and words of flattery (manipulative words) that exonerate the evil םוּיּקִ ְּב 'ה ךְרֶדֶ ְּב ךְֵליֵל הֶצוֹרָה ,שׁיִאָה לֶשׁ וֹרְשָׁא לדֶֹּג
