occasionally 100 words of Lashon Hara are spoken in a single םִא וּלִּפֲאַו .
day. And even as he recites (in the Vidduy) “We have sinned, we
have spoken slanderously,” he does not accept upon himself at

qualify as Teshuvah at all.
The teaching (statement) of Chazal is well known (Mishnayot
Avot 4:11), that whoever transgresses a single sin acquires for
himself a single prosecutor. Based on this, this man has acquired
several thousand prosecutors. It is very likely that because his
sins greatly exceed his merits, the decree against him, Gd forbid,
for death will be sealed because of it.
And the opposite is also so true, that one who conquers his (evil) .
inclination will accumulate mitzvot at every opportunity, as
Chazal have said (Gemara Makot, 23b in the Mishnah), if man .
sat passively (when confronted with an opportunity to commit וֹל ןיִנְתוֹנ ,הרֵָבֲע רַבָע אלְֹו םָדָא בַשָׁי :):ג"כ תוֹכַּמ( םרָָמֲאַמְכּ
a sin) and did not commit a sin, they give him merit as though
he had performed a mitzvah. It is possible that each day he can
accumulate many mitzvot and the scales will tilt to the side of וּהֶזְו .
merit and his life will be lengthened because of it. This is the
intent of the pasuk (Tehilim 34:13-14) “Who is the person who םיִיַּח ץֵפָחֶה שׁיִאָה יִמ" :)ד"י-ג"י ד"ל םיִלִּהְתּ( בוּתָכַּה רַמָאֶשׁ
seeks life…guard your tongue from committing ‘bad’.”
The wording of the pasuk “who loves days to see good,” is also
very precise. It is known that the days of man who has lived on
the face of the earth, even after he has died and has now gone to
his place, his days are not gathered (meaning they are not gone יֵנְפּ לַע יַח הָיָהֶשׁ םָדָאָה לֶשׁ ויָמָיְּדּ ,ַעוּדָיְדּ .
and finished) rather, there is a place for them Above in holiness.
Thus it is said of our father Abraham (Beresheet 24:1) “and .
Abraham was old, well advanced in years (lit., he came with his
days).” So too with David HaMelech (Melachim I 1:1), that all
of their days were days of sanctity and they are radiant Above,
that all of one’s good deeds for that day are engraved there and
so too all of his words of holiness that he spoke that day. For
this reason we find the expression “he came with his days,” that
there was not even one moment in a day from the time he became .
capable of mature thought when he was lacking in his recognition
