“You imbecile, my business is based on catering to the clientele .
in the innermost rooms, and my entire livelihood comes from
them.” So too literally regarding our subject.
speaks for man resides in one’s brain. Just under that are the
stomach and the intestines and lodged within them are all of ,הָערְָל הָלְעַמְל וֹמְשׁ זָא רֵכָזִּיֶּשׁ ,וּמרְְגִיֶּשׁ תוֹלֻּעְפּ הֶשֲׂעַי
the digestive functions. And under them are the legs that man שׁרַדְִמְבּ אָתיִאדְִכְו .
stands on. The most important of all is the Nefesh, which gives
him his expression of speech. Man was brought into this world
only for that reason, that with it (with his ability to speak) man
can praise Hashem Yitbarach and study His Torah, as the pasuk
states (Eyov 5:7) “man was created to toil.”
(Gemara Sanhedrin 99b) that “toil” is the effort of one’s mouth :)
to learn Torah. All of man’s other limbs which carry out bodily
functions exist only to support this effort. But because of our

the thoughts of man’s Nefesh and his expressions of speech are
devoted to various aspects of eating and dressing himself (i.e., ,וֹרֵבֲח לַע בוֹט רֵבּדְַמ אוּהֶשׁ םָדָא ָתיִארָ םִא ,"ןוֹצרָ שֵׁקַּבְי
how he presents himself) to clothe himself from his foot to his
head with beautiful clothing and shoes and to live in beautiful
homes. The lesson to be learned from this focus on materialism
is that the Nefesh services all of the organs of the body. But that
is just the opposite of its intended function. Man is obligated to

his speech has been appropriate, meaning that a majority of his
speech should be devoted to service to Hashem, to the observance
of mitzvot and to learning His Torah. David HaMelech taught
this concept when he wrote in Tehilim (119:97) “How much have רָהְזִנַּל טרְָפִבוּ ,ערָָה ןוֹשָׁל תַלָבּקַ ןַיְנִעֵמ רָהְזִנַּל רָכָָ ּשַּׂה לדֶֹּג

But one who does just the opposite is the embodiment of the
