In this chapter I will explain that by virtue of the ,ךְֶפֶהְלוּ .
sin of Lashon Hara, the Attribute of Strict Justice
is aroused Above and the attending angels will ,הָלְעַמְל תוּכְז ויָלָע ןידְִמַּלְמ ,וֹרֵבֲח לַע בוֹט רֵבּדְַמֶּשְׁכּ
prosecute against the speaker. But in an opposite .
sense, when one speaks well of his fellow Jew,
Heaven accounts it as a merit. I will also speak
about other topics.
It is the nature of man when confronted with a governmental

some later time; perhaps in the intervening time he will find some
merit to absolve himself. Heaven’s system of justice works in
this same way. In times of great anger Above it befits man not to
have his name mentioned On High because it will not bode well
for him. Mentioning his name (during those times) will only רָבָדַּל רֶכֵזְו .
serve (for Heaven) to recall his transgressions and he will emerge
guilty from Heaven’s judgment. Illustrating this concept is the
example of Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, where the pasuk relates
(Ruth 1:1-3) “There was a famine in the land and a man left Beit
Lechem…the man, his wife and his two sons. And the name ,'
of the man was Elimelech and his wife’s name was Naomi…
and Elimelech died….” Chazal have taught (Zohar Chadash on
Sefer Ruth 77:1) that it was for this reason that at first his identity

to hide his name since the famine was ravaging the land and the
Attribute of Strict Justice was gaining power.
Strict Justice would not allow the Attribute of Compassion to ,'ה יֵניֵעְבּ םיִבוֹט אלֹ וּיָהֶשׁ ,םֶהיֵשֲׂעַמ וּרְכְּזִנְו .

his entire family. In so doing their actions were recognized as not
