LAND USE FRAMEWORK AND DEVELOPMENT PLANNING
BEST PRACTICES
TODAY’S CAMPUS IS MORE THAN A PLATFORM FOR
LEARNING: IT IS A TRAINING GROUND FOR LIFE
1. INVOLVE FACULTY, STUDENTS AND STAFF IN PLAN DEVELOPMENT-
master planning and strategic planning is everyone’s mission in a
higher education institution
2. HOLD MEETINGS TO GET INPUT BEFORE PLANNING- count on
everyone’s participation and involvement and collect stakeholders’
opinion on how they can help in the process
3. HOLD MEETINGS TO GET INPUT ON DRAFT LAND USE FRAMEWORK
AND DEVELOPMENT PLANS- planning team to provide inputs about the
daily reality and internal culture of the institution and secure
comments to facilitate the design and implementation process
4 COLLECTIVELY REVIEW DATA TO IDENTIFY MEASURES OF SUCCESS-
set the right metrics as drawn from all the people involved in the
planning process
5. SETTING SHORT-TERM GOALS IN BITE SIZE PIECES IN ADDITION TO
LONG-TERM GOALS- divide broad goals into smaller objectives to
help people assume a big challenge in plan implementation
6. MONITOR PROGRESS THROUGH PERIODIC CHECKS- regularly check
milestones in order to maintain the course of plan implementation
