A Transparent Bottle Emma Ganaj ‘23
In that sharp, transparent bottle, there was a beaded bracelet and a letter.
Who could have written it? I slipped the bracelet onto my ankle because it
looked nice there, with blues and whites swirling on every bead. The letter
was actually addressed to me and I felt panic rise in me. Nobody I knew
wrote letters anymore. In scrawled handwriting, they told me that I was in
danger and to come to a certain location if I sought help. I didn’t know what
was coming, but the lake grew cold and I got so scared I went to the location
without a second thought. It was the boy from my first swim at the lake, who
I hadn’t thought of since then. He had a red and orange beaded bracelet on
his ankle, in contrast to mine. He told me someone was following both of us.
The bushes shook and I saw something I would never forget. We ran and
jumped off the dock without looking back. I didn’t know when I could come
out.
