The Fort Zoutman
treasure hunt
was very successful

10 LOCAL ARUBA’S Historical Museum (MHA) had a summer vacation plan where kids

will be introduced to the history of Fort Zoutman through a 6 kids’ camp. This even
concluded on Wednesday August 5 with an extraordinary native and pirate treasure
hunt. This was an interactive way of educate kids on the fascinating history of both
the Aruban Historical Museum and the Archeological Museum.

Regarding the Pirate treasure hunt the History Museum created and interactive pro-
gram to relate Four Zoutman’s history and how it came to existence in the 17th century.
During this hunt the kids also visited the Gold Mine in Franse Pas (Frenchman’s pass)
which is extremely significant in our island’s history.
Through this treasure hunt kids learned about history and unique scenery’s our en-
vironment all while being taught how to achieve their goals as a team.

The kids’ camp was received really well, so well that on the final day a 7th group was
given the opportunity to participate in it.
The Historic Museum considers this a huge achievement since it is a new and fun
way to transfer our heritage to the future generation.
The kids that participated in this camp were all very happy and received a bag con-
taining important tools to preserve and protect our heritage to take home with them.
Our heritage and culture are extremely important since they are important factors
          in determining our identity.

It’s extremely important that our community understand that all monuments and
cultural heritage whether tangible or intangible is ours, because we all live on this
small island and love its culture, that makes us all heirs to its heritage and culture.
The Aruban Historical Museum wants to thanks CEDE Aruba for making this project
possible and all kids and parents that participated and put their trust in the kids’camp.
The Historical Museum promises to plan more educational projects for kids and teens
          during the new school year.
