                                Mechanical Lift

                             When to use a Mechanical lift
                             • When the patient is a two-or-more
                               person transfer
                             • When the patient has severe cognitive
                               deficits
                             • When the patient has poor trunk control
                             • When the patient is severely
                               deconditioned
                             • Some bariatric patients
                             • When it is unsafe for the patient to use
                               an ambulatory device or transfer board
                             • When the patient medically requires
                               repositioning to improve condition
                             • When the patient would be confined to
                               the bed without use of a lift

                             Transfer Type: Rolling/ Scooting In Bed


                               Adjust height/ and position of the bed if applicable
                                  o If this is not possible, do not reach across the bed
                                  o Place both knees on the bed


                               Bend your knees



                               Encourage the patient to participate in the mobility


                               Utilize a draw sheet or plastic glide sheets


                               Utilize a caregiver wherever possible
