popular around the parish, he would
often host big dinner parties. He had
a lovely, spacious dining room and
when he had these parties, he had
no less than 50 guests seated at the
table. Mizzie would sometimes help
to serve the food, and Mr. Chardleys
friends would always compliment
him on her and a few even offered to
buy her from him. They would offer
him very high prices, and each time,
he would turn them down.
One day Mr. Chardley sent Mizzie
into town to run some errands.
