People with blue eyes do not obtain
this eye coloration as a result of
melanin pigment.
Instead, blue-eyed individuals have
very little melanin pigment in their
irises.
Rather, blue eyes result from the
same optical effect that causes the
sky to appear blue.
This phenomenon is called, Tyndall
scattering. Tyndall scattering results
when white light passes through a
medium where small particles are
suspended.
