First, in 1618, The Thirty Years’ War began and in
1701 The War of The Spanish Succession began.
In 1761, Spain joined The Seven Years’ War
against Great Britain and in 1808, The Peninsular
War occurred between the French Empire led by
Napoleon.
During this period, the Spanish American wars
of independence began and by 1833, the
majority of the Spanish territories in America
have gained their independence.
Then in 1814, The Allies won the Peninsular War
and Spain was now freed of French rule. The
early 1880s is when Spanish artists were born.
In 1881, artist Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga,
Spain and in 1883, architect Antoni Gaudi began
working on the Sagrada Familia Roman Catholic
church in Barcelona.
