In 1520, Spanish explorer Hernan Cortes
conquered the Aztecs Empire in Mexico.
Then in 1532, explorer Francisco Pizarro
conquered the Incan Empire and
established the city of Lima.
In 1556, Phillip 2 became the King of
Spain. In 1588, the English fleet led by Sir
Francis Drake defeated the Spanish
Armada.
In 1605, Miguel de Cervantes published
the first part of the epic novel Don
Quixote.
From the 1600s to the early 1800s was
when Spain was involved in a number of
wars.
