The National league faced threats
in the beginning by rival leagues
and rebelling players. Players hated
to stay in one team, known as the
reserve clause, because not all
players played well with everybody
else. New leagues would quickly
form and quickly disband. One of
the most successful leagues was the
American Association. It was famous
because it sold alcoholic beverages to
the spectators. Both leagues would Association and the National League
meet each other during postseason merged into a single entity that
championship. In 1892, the American consisted of 12 teams.
