The National league faced threats

in the beginning by rival leagues

            and rebelling players. Players hated

to stay in one team, known as the

            reserve clause, because not all

            players played well with everybody

            else. New leagues would quickly

form and quickly disband. One of

the most successful leagues was the

            American Association. It was famous

because it sold alcoholic beverages to

the spectators. Both leagues would Association and the National League

meet each other during postseason merged into a single entity that

championship. In 1892, the American consisted of 12 teams.
