KNOWLEDGE TRANSFERRED
1. Studies and report of the whole pilot plant operations with regards to processes flows, steam explosion unit, boiler,
steam supply, and vacuum technology.
2. Process and operational activities for all system and machines in the pilot plant especially steam explosion unit and
its post operation system.
3. Redesign of the system based on the earlier report on the suitability of the system for integration of vacuum techn-
ology into existing steam explosion system.
4. Redesign of the system based on fabricator advised to improvise and to overcome over-design and to minimize the
cost of fabrication.

IMPACT MEASUREMENT METHODS
Increase in Product Quality LKPP Corporation Sdn. Bhd. able to operate the Steam Explosion Unit for the
cellulose pilot plant with vacuum-assisted steam explosion unit technology.
Benefits for IPTA Strengthen the networking between university and industry leading to more
(Recognition for Aca- active collaboration in future.
demician)
Human Capital Develop- 1. 2 graduate interns were employed for the operation of vacuum-
ment (Graduate Intern assisted separation process.
Employability) 2. The graduate intern was exposed to working the environment and
improved communication skill.
Intangible Benefits 1. Provide an opportunity for the biomass usage as another important
raw material for value-added applications.
2. Reduce risk of explosion by lowering the pressure through the vac-
uum assisted technology.
