P. 8
INTRODUCTION
56 Knowledge Transfer Program (KTP) is a program between academia, industry and the community
to recognize and promote transfer of knowledge through the exchange of creative and innovative
ideas from wider research, experience and skills. KTP has formed a partnership that benefits both
university and industry as well as the community. This collaboration has shown that the university
59 is not only a knowledge institution but has also become a medium to industry and community in
providing meaningful lives as well as able to generate the nation’s economic development towards
more viable and competitive.
63 KTP recognizes various activities to support mutually beneficial cooperation between universities,
industries and communities (government agencies / non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
/ public sector). It provides a platform for the exchange of tangible and intangible intellectual
66 property, expertise, learning and skills between academia, industry and society. Interaction forms
can include, consulting, education, training, graduate development, conferences, sharing of physical
facilities and student placement.
71 There are five (5) key result areas (KRAs) implemented in the KTP program namely Education,
Economic Advantages, Sustainability and Green Technology Initiative, Group of People with
Disability Efforts and Developing a Rational Industry Curriculum. Through the implementation
76
of KTP, the role of the university is to combine the latest and greatest knowledge of industry
and community in teaching, learning, research and development. While the industry can use the
resources of the university to improve business and economic capabilities and the community can
benefit from the knowledge generated to improve the quality of life of a community.
79
Thus, the best practice book is published to highlight the successful implementation of each KTP
83
project until the achievement of the output, outcome and impact of a project is produced. For this
publication, 25 KTP’s projects have been completed for the period from 2012 to 2014 in accordance
with the objectives and milestones as set out in the approved application. In addition, the publication
86
of this book will show the achievements of each project and how output and outcome targets and
impact on academia, graduates of trainees, industry / communities and universities as a result of a
89 KTP project. It also serves as the basis for assessing the success of the project as well as guidance in
improving the KTP project in the future.
