QSI International School of Zhuhai
QSI International School of Zhuhai, founded in
1999, is located on the Pearl River Delta, adjacent
to Macau and Hong Kong. This growing Special
Economic Zone is home to several multinational
businesses and organizations, as well as a key
location for Chinese development. The school
serves approximately 150 students from 26 different
nationalities, lending to a truly international feel,
while keeping the warm, family feeling QSI is
known for worldwide.
This family feeling was recently put to the test,
as the city of Zhuhai was battered by typhoon Hato
on August 24, 2017. Hato, the strongest typhoon to
hit the region in 53 years, left widespread damage
throughout the city. The school was fortunate,
suffering broken windows, downed trees, and
flooding, but no major structural damage. In
the wake of the typhoon, the school community
immediately came together to clear debris and
repair the building. Dozens of teachers, parents,
and students organized into work crews, and
banded together to bring the school back online
and operational in only a few short days!
This outpouring of support was not only
reserved for the school campus. Groups of teachers
volunteered for clean-up crews throughout the city,
and parent groups helped to organize responses in
the local community. While we spend significant
time teaching children about social issues, and
encouraging their service to others as part of our
Success Orientations, it was a wonderful example
of the care and concern for which QSI International
School of Zhuhai is known. QSI schools typically
deliver a dedication to rigorous academics in
a family environment, and QSI Zhuhai is no
exception. And in a moment of adversity, our
school community truly exemplifies what it means
to be an international family.
