French whipping
The spiral bracelet and the spiral handle wrap
both have their roots in this old sailor’s knots, used
to stop the end of line from fraying. It’s one of the
simplest yet most secure of these so-called
‘whippings’.
1 Tie a running loop in the end of the line, using an overhand loop or
similar.
