Sheet bend
One of the most useful all-round bends, the sheet
bend is equally effective for joining ropes of both the
same or different sizes. It scores better on strength
than on security, which means it may collapse if
jerked repeatedly, but can be made more secure by
seizing the end of the loop to its standing part.
1 Take two lines and put a bight in one of them – the larger (or stiffer) of
the two, if they are different sizes.
