Crown knot

The crown and its close sister, the wall knot, form

the basis of many more elaborate knots that not
only fulfil their purpose but look beautiful too. It can

also be used on its own as a stop, to prevent a rope
fraying, until a more permanent solution is found.

1 Seize the line a distance 12 times its own diameter from the end, and

tease the strands apart. Stop the ends of the strands with a butane

whipping.
