Gaff topsail hitch
This is a simplified version of the studding sail
bend, as it omits the final tuck under the first turn.
Like its more secure sister, it cannot be tied while
the standing part is under load. It is, however, an
exceedingly compact and quickly tied knot.
Follow the instructions in Day 195, stopping at Step 3. Note that the
working end is pulled well away from the standing part.
