Lighterman’s hitch
The lighterman’s hitch can simply be dropped
into place with no fussy hitches, gets stronger as
more force is exerted, and yet can be undone with a
few flicks. The only real drawback is that this knot
will slip when tied with light or slippery lines. In
which case, get some heftier rope!
1 Take a turn around the post or bollard.
