I worked for a year at Universal Sounds in Windhoek
before starting my studies as a teacher in Cape
Town. I worked in Cape Town as a specialist
Art teacher for nearly a year whilst getting
my passport sorted. In Cape Town went off
the rails a bit, like you do as a student.
Arrived in London in January 2003.
It was a tough start with so many changes.
Did day to day supply teaching for 8 months,
which was hard. Behavior in mainstream
schools was not what I was used to in SA.
The good thing, I became an expert at
managing challenging behaviors. Started at
the school where I work now in October 2003.
I always said I'll stay in the UK for as long as
I'm learning. I have since completed my UK
teaching qualification, did a one year course at Birmingham
University in Autism, Qualified as a NAS EarlyBird + Trainer, Qualified as PECS
Implementer and completed a Masters in SEN Education in 2015.
Somewhere in-between all that, I met my Tim and we have two beautiful girls
together. I miss Namibia, it will always be my home, but for now this where we seem
to have better opportunities as a family.
