the eaGle hall & ashFold side shoot
The combined Eagle Hall & Ashfold Side Shoot extends to approximately 3,000 acres and is located on both sides of
the B6265 Pateley Bridge to Grassington road from ¼ mile outside Pateley Bridge and borders our two Grouse Moors at
Hardcastle and Heathfield.
The Eagle Hall Shoot is a long established gentleman’s shoot which I have leased from the owner of the sporting rights,
Paul Garforth.
The moorland edges below Hardcastle and Heathfield Moors and the land leased from Richard Simpson at Ashfold Side
make up approximately half of the new Eagle Hall and Ashfold Side Shoot with the main Eagle Hall area making up the
remainder. The Shoot is approximately 20 to 30 minutes’ drive from Ripley Castle.
The Shoot area offers a variety of main drives producing testing high pheasant and partridge driven from hillside woodlands,
wild bird cover and moorland edges, together with a number of smaller drives which are equally as challenging. On our
main high bird drives, some of the birds can be out of range with the balance being very challenging for even the most
experienced guns. By the nature and variety of the terrain we are shooting over, I now know by what guns have told me
that the height and sporting quality of our birds are comparable to if not better than other high bird shoots in the UK.
If you choose to join one of our days and are new to driven or high bird game shooting, I do strongly recommend the
services of one of our instructors or an experienced shot to stand with you. I find it really does help.
Our shot to bird average is normally around 4.60.
As at Ripley Castle our days will no longer be referred to as Members or Keepers Days, they will be just Shoot Days. We
are now providing the same facilities, meals and refreshments on all our days.
On our 250 bird days or more our luncheon arrangements remain as at present. On our 200 bird days we will still meet
at the Bridge Inn and will now take a full breakfast not just bacon buns. We will shoot through and take a late lunch
provided at The Bridge Inn.
On all our shoot days we will meet at 8.30 a.m.
