TAKE STOCK/JOHNSON SCHOLARS YEAR-END REPORT (6)
Johnson Scholars Program partnered with Sharon Martinez, Human Resource Manager, in securing
internship positions for TSICJS students. Currently, there are eighteen students employed with the
school district in internships that include providing technical assistance, teaching assistance, and office
administrative assistance. The stipends are funded by the Johnson Scholars Program. We are very
happy to be providing students professional growth opportunities where they are able to apply
appropriate use of their resume, effective interview skills, and all parts of the employment process.
FAU and PBSC Senior Summits
FAU Senior Summit: This year’s Senior Summit took place over two days at different locations. The purpose of this event was to provide our scholars with the necessary tools for a successful transition into their chosen secondary paths. During the first Senior Summit, the First-Gen office at FAU welcomed thirteen incoming TSICJS scholars. FAU provided an orientation that introduced them to important offices and people essential for a positive collegiate experience. Kevin Allen, Director of Development for the Kelly Strul Emerging Scholars Program, and his team also connected students to various resources such as the admissions office and student service personnel.
FAU Senior Summit: Incoming Owls with TSICJS College Coaches
PBSC Summit: On the second day of the Senior Summit, students attending schools within the Florida University System, private schools, out-of-state schools, and the military, gathered at Palm Beach State College. They received guidance on how to maintain and secure their TSIC Florida Prepaid Scholarship and their Federal Application Financial Student Assistance funds. PBSC also ensured that all 63 incoming scholars were registered for their fall courses. As a reward for their achievement, all students received a book bag, planner, and an "I am a scholar" TSICJS sweatshirt from TSICJS. Additionally, TSICJS emphasized that they will continue to be a support system throughout their post-secondary journey.
