Cultural Tips

BATHROOMS: There are outdoor public bathrooms
called sanisettes all over Paris. They are free, and pro-
grammed to self-clean after each use, so relatively sani-
tary. You can visit a map of the locations in this hand-
book here. You can also step into any café to use the
bathroom, but you will be expected to purchase at least
a coffee.

REZ-DE-CHAUSSEE (RC): In Europe, the ground
floor is level “0” also known as the rez-de-chaussée. For
example, if your room is on the 3rd floor, you will have
to ascend to what Americans would call the 4th floor.
CLOTHES: The French tend to dress comfortably
but dressy. No sports attire (gym shorts, tank tops,
yoga pants, etc).

STRIKES: Are common in France, and may disrupt
our trip. Just be prepared. For the most part, demon-
strations are non violent.
