Meteorology

With all these kinds of weather phenomena’s that the cloud contains, it is

                hazardous for flight.

Furthermore, it can form rather suddenly,

so even though one might think the
weather is fine for a flight, plans may need

to be changed quickly. So, it is important

to have a “plan B” in mind!

3.6.4.1 Conditions for the growth of a CB cloud

The following conditions must be met for a CB cloud to form:

                    - Humid air at high altitudes

                    - Unstable air in a large vertical area

                    - Strong lifting movements within the cloud
                    - Temperature at the cloud base above 0°C and at the top below -30°C.

The energy for the colossal development comes from the release of latent heat

during condensation, with 600 calories of heat released per gram of water. This

heat is partially converted into kinetic energy.

                The dangers are easy to

                spot for the small

                aircraft flying into the

                cloud.

In fact, it can be difficult

                for an inexperienced
                pilot to see and, more

                importantly, to predict

the dangers that may arise from further flying under the cloud.

Turn back before it’s too late!
