Flight performance and planning

We will go through preparation for a flight by collecting information and

performing calculations. We will look at things you have learned in navigation

and meteorology, as well as applying rules from aviation law and procedures

                from the subject operational procedures.

So, this is a demanding part where knowledge from other subjects must be
applied. Therefore, this subject is probably also the last one you will take the

                exam in.

                7.9.1 Flight preparation

There are many considerations you need to make before you get in the plane

                with the intention of flying.

You have to choose your route based on various airspace considerations, obtain

weather information, plot the route on the map, make various calculations, etc.

                7.9.1.1 Weather

Weather is one of the most important, but also the most unpredictable elements

                of any flight.

The weather we have to fly in must meet various minima. It is therefore
necessary to obtain information about what the weather is and will be like.

You need to know what the weather is and will be like:

                   - at the place where you take off

                   - along the route

                   - at the destination

                   - at the airport you have chosen as an alternative landing site

Information about the weather can be obtained:

                   - by contacting an aviation weather service either in person or via the Internet

                   - the aviation weather service (at all major airports)
