                But perhaps we need to.

                                                                                             o
From 2019 to 2024 it has increased by 1 , so that it is now around 4 -5 E (but it
                is not static).

In other places, such as in Northern Norway,

you have to take this into account when

                flying.

In fact, there are very few places where the

                variation is below 10 (+ or -).

                9.5.4.1 Isogons

Lines that connect places with the same variation are called isogons (the dotted

lines on the ICAO map and the black ones in the drawing here).

9.5.4.2 Variation on the ICAO map

On the ICAO map we can also see that

the isogons appear to be straight lines.

The clip here from the ICAO map 2024

shows how variation is indicated on the

                map.

                                        o
The isogon with 4 30’E variation is
visible at the top of the map.

The variation is shown on the ICAO map as dotted lines and indicated
at each end of the map with degrees and location east or west.
