Lines that connect places with the same variation are called isogons (the dotted

9.5.4.2 Variation on the ICAO map
On the ICAO map we can also see that
the isogons appear to be straight lines.

shows how variation is indicated on the
map.

The isogon with 4 30’E variation is
visible at the top of the map.
The variation is shown on the ICAO map as dotted lines and indicated
at each end of the map with degrees and location east or west.
