9.6.1.4 Error display on the magnetic compass

The magnetic compass can also be subject to errors

arising from acceleration and turning errors caused

                by the inclination:

                 - turning errors occur for north/south courses
                 - acceleration and deceleration errors occur for

                    east/west courses

Since correct reading can be of the utmost importance, it is of course important

to minimize the magnetic compass's errors as much as possible.

This is done by keeping the compass separate from things with magnetic forces

as well as from electricity and electronics in general, both when installing various

                instruments and in daily use.

9.6.1.5 Using the magnetic compass and heading gyro in practice

In our planning of the trip, we have determined TH for the individual legs.

We convert this TH to an MH by correcting for variation.

However, we do not fly according to the magnetic compass but according to our

                directional gyro.

Before takeoff, we adjust the directional gyro to the
                magnetic direction of the runway.

The directional gyro drifts a little during the flight, so

along the way we periodically adjust the directional

gyro to the magnetic compass reading, which we

convert to MH using the deviation table.
