9.6.3.3 Overview – table

The variation is read, in the example here, on the map at 2°E (if you have a newer

map, the variation will be higher). With this information, True Track (TT) can be

converted to magnetic track (MT) by subtracting 2 from TT.

Now all 3 legs have been measured (True Track and Distance) and entered into

a table:

It can be difficult to remember whether to subtract or add and in what order to

do it.

We have a little help method for the calculation: “Can Dead Men Vote Twice”.

Here you can insert the known values and calculate the unknowns.

As you can see, we can calculate both ways:
