Our first part of the route (the first “leg” to EKSD) had a distance of 18 NM. A
little mental math says about 1/5 hour.
Read off 18 on the outer scale how many minutes it takes. In the red circle you
can read that it takes 10.8 minutes i.e. a little under 1/5 hour.
Normally we will round up to 11 minutes, then we have time to get on a new
course.
But you must be able to do the math in minutes and seconds!
0.1 minute is 6 seconds, so 8 x 6 seconds = 48 seconds.
The result is therefore 10 min. 48 seconds (as written in the table on the previous
page)
The other times can be read as:
- 15 min for the 25 NM
- 18 min. 36 seconds for the 31 NM
If we turn it around a bit, we can ask how far can we fly in 24 minutes? If
you also got 40 NM, then you have found the trick.
You will get a little more problem here:
If the plane uses 10 liters per hour, how much does it use in 18 minutes?
Answer:
You don't need to turn the computer 10 per hour it is set up, read against the 18
min that it is 30 liters,
But no it must be 3 liters.
We have to put commas ourselves; the computer can't do that.
