          The Institute took its first stretching in the year 1973, when Mrs. Suman Singh took
          over as Principal. Under her able patronage institute started One year Diploma courses

          (Cookery, Bakery, Food & Beverage, Front Office and Housekeeping) in 1978. In year
          1980 Food Craft Institute was upgraded as State Institute of Hotel Management and
          affiliated  with  Board  of  Technical  Education,  Uttar  Pradesh,  became  5th  oldest
          Government Institute of Hotel Management in the country. The same year another
          achievement came in the form of introduction of 3years diploma in Hotel Management

          along with other ongoing courses. In 1982 NCHMCT was constituted and on 1st
          August 1984 Institute was brought under the umbrella of National Council for Hotel Management and Catering
          Technology  (NCHMCT)  and  named  as  Institute  of  Hotel  Management,  Catering Technology  & Applied
          Nutrition, Lucknow, an autonomous body under Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. The Institute was
          shifted to its present location in the year 1989 with better infrastructure and facilities. Until 1991 IHM Lucknow
          prospered  under  the  principleship  of  Mrs.  Suman  Singh,  During  her  tenure,  the  institute  had  witnessed

          tremendous growth in terms of infrastructure, course elaboration and faculty enhancement.
