Discrimination is REAL
By Elder Lakeba Wallace
Unfortunately in 2018, discrimination is still very real.
It's sad to be writing about discrimination, but discrimination
still directs and divides our schools, our jobs, certain
professions, certain businesses and certain functions/
outings.
So many people are silently experiencing discrimination with
no hope of it ever ending. It's often said by many, that,
"It's always been this way". In other words, discrimination
has become the accepted norm.
Discrimination is especially prevalent in the workplace in
many areas but especially in rural areas. In rural areas, the
culture tends to be stuck in the times of slavery. Therefore,
minorities are over looked in the workforce, not promoted
and fired if they speak up or request an inch of equality.
Minorities are even ostracized if they move in upscale areas
and often beat down or killed by the police if they try to
exercise their civil/human rights.
Equality, justice and fairness should be available to all kind,
but it's not. We live day in and day out in a world that is
engulfed in injustice, unfairness and racism. No matter what
someone's race or gender is, right is right and wrong is
wrong. Discrimination is wrong no matter how you look at it.
As we progress in a world filled with injustice, it's so important to build your faith in God, build your trust
in God and build your belief in God. When you experience discrimination, there is only one person that
is powerful enough to get your through....God and God only.
Discrimination is tough, it's hurtful, it's silent (at times) and it's real. So, the question on the table is,
how do we end discrimination?
Discrimination will only come to an end when we speak up and stand up together for what is right. Once
the division stops, the discrimination will stop as well. We have to stand together to fight injustice, fight
unfairness and fight racism.
I hope you never experience discrimination, but if you do, don't be afraid to speak up and don't be
afraid to stand up. Regardless of the discrimination that you are or have experienced, don't give up.
Discrimination is just an opportunity for God to elevate you in the presence of your enemies.
(Psalms 23:5).
Therefore, in the face of discrimination, continue to stay focused and be STRONG.
You already WON the battle! ■
