Lack of Economic Support for ISMs in National Budget
Despite the recent push at the national level towards adopting AYUSH, its effects are yet to
be seen in national policy and budget, which due to heavy national level lobbying (Yadav
2019) are still largely in favour of allopathic medicine. This lack of resources means that ISM
has few means of proving through research, documenting or marketing, its effectiveness to
the urban Indian, having to depend further on existing ‘systems of trust’ to grow. The recent
religious fervour and political polarisation in favour of certain healthcare traditions over
others adds a further spin to this already churned up situation.
