Sequential Batch Reactors (SBR)

SBR automatic controls cont.

The informed Operator is active throughout the day at an SBR facility.

Operators need to monitor, sample, trend data, maintain tank probes, ensure each

phase of a batch treatment is occurring and document and report observations.

The Operator must be fully capable of operating the SBR system in manual,

controlling each phase of treatment should the automation fail.

Although automation failure is a rare occurrence, an Operator who is not capable

of manually initiating treatment phases could risk permit violation.

Operators must learn and periodically practice manual SBR operation, so they are

capable and confident in a time of emergency need.
