PERICARDIOCENTESIS Pericardiocentesis in a dog with severe cardiac tamponade and hemorrhagic pericardial
effusion. With the dog in left lateral recumbency, the head is beyond the lower right corner of the image. The
syringe catheter-stylet combination has been advanced to the point of entering the pericardium, and effusion
is seen in the hub of the stylet and the syringe. Next, the catheter will be advanced off the stylet.
