Pathogenesis
Genetic factors.
Lupus development in humans can be caused by deficiencies of the
complement components C1q or C4. Genes associated with
dendritic cell functions, immune complex processing, T cell
functions and signaling, apoptosis, and B cell functions have all
been implicated in influencing lupus risk. Lupus in humans is
predominantly a disease of women.
