MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, METHODIST EDUCATION COUNCIL
Last year was an eventful and significant time for our beloved nation of Malaysia. As a nation, history was created with Malaysia’s 14th general election which has brought about a change in the government. The country and its new government administration are still adapting. Institutional Reformation is the current buzz word. The education sector is not immune to the change but the new government seems to be open to suggestions for transformation.
The Methodist Council of Education is fully aware of the rapid changes in the 21st century education pedagogy delivery. The school curricular instructional leaders and administrators need to be alert and plan for different modes of teaching and learning strategies. More importantly, the education in the 21st century must ensure that students are ready for the future, be it in terms of employability, contribution to the economy and inculcating of godly values for an evolving world.
In this context, education institutions need to equip our students who are not only competent in their respective academic excellence, but also adaptable, technologically savvy, have acquired communicative, collaborative and critical thinking skills and are capable of playing proactive roles in a globalised world. The dawn of the Industrial Revolution IR 4.0 has led to a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world. It is therefore imperative for schools to prepare our students to face this ever-changing reality and help them to embrace the uncertainty and equip them to enjoy the adventure.
The Methodist Council of Education is fully committed and shares a similar vision with the Ministry of Education to have a school that embraces the core values of love and compassion, students who find joy and happiness in learning and schooling and the inculcation of noble values and character with mutual respect among teachers and students.
Let us put our act together and pray to our Almighty God: “Let the favour of the Lord, our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands” (Psalm 90:17).
