Lee Xiao Xian (4A; CGPA 4.0)
Having bagged the highest CGPA in MBSSKL and becoming the best Science student for STPM in 2018 with straight A’s, the school had awarded Lee Xiao Xian with the Tan Chin Ghee Award for 2018. Having also scored excellent results for her PT3 and SPM exam, it’s not surprising that Xiao Xian would soar to greater heights with every challenge.
For her STPM exam, Xiao Xian continued to excel and her hard work was rewarded as achieving a CGPA of 4.0 is not an easy task. Having Lee Jun De who was also a top STPM scorer in MBS as an older brother would have everyone feeling afraid and nervous. On the contrary, Xiao Xian had a
different opinion. “At times I did feel the burden of living up to his success, but he served as a personal inspiration to me. Having Jun De as an older brother motivated me to perform better in my studies.” She revealed her secrets to success, and it is easier said than done. “The key to success is to be consistent with your studies. I will finish my homework and do my revision before I go to bed every day.” She did find it difficult to stick to her study schedule on a daily basis. She confessed that making time for her own self was the biggest challenge she had to face throughout the year, a small sacrifice she was willing to make if she was to become an electrical/electronic engineer. As a pure science student, she always felt that the General Studies paper was the toughest subject. She had taken a few measures to manage it by reading more essays and seeking help from her teachers. Xiao Xian’s face showed contentment as she dedicated her success to her subject teachers.“The teachers, especially Pn Chong Moy Yoong and Pn LauHuei Choo, were extremely supportive. They were willing to spend their time to answer any queries I had regarding my studies.” We wish her all the best as she will furthering her studies in University Malaya for Electrical Engineering.
TAN CHIN GHEE AWARD
DATUK TAN HONG LAI AWARD
Seah Ka Yew (3A & 1A-; CGPA 3.92)
Having no genuine interest in joining any pre-university programme, Seah Ka Yew never thought he would achieve an impressive result and this was clearly beyond his wildest dreams. “I used to laugh at the thought of joining Form 6, but now I know I chose the right path.” The 2019 Datuk Tan Hong Lai Award was given to Ka Yew as his
consistent hard work and perseverance had resulted in him being the best STPM student from the Humanities stream. When he was asked on his secret to success, he thought that his laid-back demeanor allowed him to perform tasks under duress. “I’m pretty relaxed when it comes to studying. Oftentimes I would only do my revision after the date of the examination is announced. My attitude has certainly played a
part in my success.” Seah Ka Yew sounded nonchalant, while adopting a relaxed manner. He went on about how he felt studying under immense pressure will only affect his learning performance, which could be the culprit to achieving one’s goals. However, he admitted that time management played a big part in preparing to face the examination. “You can stay calm, but time management and self-control is also important.” He also said that leisure, co-curricular activities and personal matters are not one’s obstacles to success if one is willing to commit to every task. According to him, language proficiency has always been his biggest challenge. He took the initiative to improve his disadvantage either by requesting guidance from his teachers, or seeking answers on his own. Fast forward a few months later, he is now one of the top scorers in MBSSKL, the school’s pride. He will be pursuing East Asian Studies in University Malaya’s Arts and Social Science Faculty.
