From the nearby Capitoline Hill, Daniela will share you with the best viewpoint of The Forum
and discuss this former civic hub
of the Roman Republic. You will
also visit with your guide the
Catacombs, which are a series of
               underground burial chambers used
               by early Christians and located
typically outside the old walls of
the city. In ancient Roman times,
burial within the city walls was
               prohibited. While pagans favored
               cremation, Christians were buried
               in these subterranean chambers
outside the city, and the remains of
early Christian martyrs and saints were kept here. When Emperor Constantine legalized
Christianity in 313 A.D., the catacombs became pilgrimage sites.

Daniela will include a stop for lunch during the tour (cost of lunch not included in your
program). Based on interest and time, you might also visit some of the key sights in the Baroque
area of Rome including the delightful district between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.
Consider a gelato stop at Giolitti, one of our favorite gelato purveyors.
Admission to the Colosseum and Catacombs is included in your program. Please note that lines
to pass through a metal detector at the Colosseum can vary from 10 min to more than an hour in
               a worst case scenario.

We’ll share our proprietary dining guide and make bookings for the duration of your program
               based on your preferences.

Accommodations for 1 Night: Hotel de Russie. Situated between the Spanish Steps and Piazza
del Popolo, this property is a fascinating mix of old and new, and features a wonderful garden
that should be quite pleasant in mid-June and the perfect spot both for an afternoon aperitivo and
               breakfast each morning.

Day 2: The Vatican and on to Florence. Today, you will have special access to the Vatican
Museums (including the Sistine Chapel) at 8:00 a.m., which is before opening hours (the
museums including the chapel open at 9:00 a.m.). At 7:30 a.m., meet Daniela at hotel reception.
After proceeding to the Vatican by taxi (cost of taxis not included), you will spend 3 hrs on a
private guided tour comprising the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine Chapel, and
               magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica.
