Day 8 – Thursday, October 19: The Secrets of the Alentejo. Your driver will meet you at
hotel reception to begin the day’s touring. Your first stop will be at one of Portugal’s top wine
and olive oil producers, and the largest privately-owned wine company in the country. The
estate’s boundaries date back to 1267, making the property one of great historical significance.
A medieval tower and chapel from the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, and an archeological dig
of a prehistoric settlement on the property some 5,000 years ago are clear points of interest.
You’ll enjoy a private tour of the estate’s wine cellars, followed by a wine tasting, olive oil
tasting, and a gourmet lunch atop the estate terrace with lovely views of the Alentejo plains.
Balance of the day at leisure. On your own, you may wish to visit the Cromlech of the
Almendres, a megalithic complex with the largest existing group of structured menhirs in the
Iberian Peninsula, and one of the largest in all of Europe. The archaeological site consists of
several structures belonging to the so-called “megalithic universe of Evora.”
Proposed Accommodations: Convento do Espinheiro
Day 9 – Friday, October 20: On to Cascais. Your private driver will lead you 1 hr 45 min to
your final base in beautiful Cascais. Your hotel here is an oasis in itself, with its amazing views
and blissful amenities, so we would be remiss not to recommend taking the day at leisure upon
your arrival.
Proposed Accommodations for 2 nights: Albatroz Hotel, a glamorous, seaside hotel
overlooking the Bay of Cascais. The hotel has just completed a significant refurbishment and at
present, we can guarantee, a newly-refurbished sea view room.
